BGC Announces Members to Donate Profits from Royal Ascot to Charity

BGC Members Donate Profits from Royal Ascot race to Charity

Updated 28/6/23

The British Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) announced that members would be donating the profits from the Britannia Stakes race at Royal Ascot to charity. As this is one of the biggest events in the racing calendar this is sometimes a significant sum. This year, it seems that the bookies did not fare so well as the race became a loss-maker instead as the favourites did well. Instead, the BGC members have made a voluntary donation of £277,000 to support the stated charities.

Gambling Operators and Charities Involved in the Royal Ascot Donation

To celebrate the King’s Coronation, all of the major UK bookmakers have decided to take part in the Betting and Gaming Council initiative. This includes operators like Entain, William Hill, Flutter, bet365, 888, Kindred, Virgin Bet, Fitzdares, LivescoreBet, Betway, Rank Group and Bet with Ascot. Each of these gambling businesses will donate to charity their profits from win and each-way bets. This is the profit after any levy and duties are deducted. Of course, there is always a chance that the operators will not make any profit. Although this is highly unlikely, they have agreed to collectively donate $318,000 to the charities involved.

The money will be donated to a host of fantastic causes from children to sports charities. Some of the charities that are set to benefit from this Betting and Gaming Council Royal Ascot initiative are Together for Looked After Children, Ascot Racecourse Supports, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Sport Aid, Holocaust Educational Trust and the SAS Regimental Association.

Charity Praise for the Betting and Gaming Council

Charities have praised the Betting and Gaming Council, as well as all of the bookmakers involved, for their soon to be very generous donation. This initiative was first launched in 2020 and since then it has become more and more successful each year.

Michael Dugher, the Betting and Gaming Council chief executive offer praised the Royal Ascot event and noted that he is delighted by the bookmakers taking part as a tribute to the King’s Coronation and as a tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth II. He also commented that the charities involved were ‘outstanding’.

The Betting and Gaming Council Charity Work

The Betting and Gaming Council is known for its outstanding charity work and last year, the Royal Ascot annual race raised $1.5 million for charity. This initiative is now in its fourth year and since the council was founded in 2019, it has donated more than $7 million to good causes.
