Safer Gambling Week Date Announced for 2023 Campaign

Safer Gaming Week will be taking place again in 2023, making this the sixth year that the event will be running. It will take place from the 13th to the 19th November 2023 and is supported by some of the biggest names in the gambling industry.

What to Expect from Safer Gambling Week 2023

The goal of Safer Gambling Week 2023 is to promote safer gambling messages, get all the gambling operators to push the safer gambling message even more than usual and provide support to those suffering from a gambling problem. It gives everyone an opportunity to ensure players know about all the tools n place that can help them to stay in control of their gambling in a high profile manner.

Fully supported by the Betting and Gaming Council

Once again, the Betting and Gaming Council (BGC) has announced that it will be supporting safer gambling week. Other organisations that are helping to organise and support the event include BACTA, the Bingo Association and the Lotteries Council.

As well as promoting tools to help with safer gambling, gambling helplines will also be promoted as part of Safer Gambling Week 2023. This includes:

  • The National Gambling Helpline – 0808 8020 133
  • Republic of Ireland – 1800 936 725
  • Northern Ireland – 08000 886 725

The week-long event is also encouraging people to get involved on social media. Safer Gambling Week will be promoted across YouTube, Twitter and Facebook. In 2022, the event garnered almost 30 million impressions across its social account which was a 21% increase from the previous year.

Safer Gambling Week Statistics

One of the most recent reports from the UK Gambling Commission found that the problem gambling rate for the year April 2022 to March 2023, sat at 0.3%.

Last year the campaign was hugely successful and found that around 200,000 gambling accounts set deposit limits, which was an increase of around 12.5% when compared to the same month, October, one year prior.

Around 61% of the players setting deposit limits on their gambling accounts did it for the first time. Furthermore, there was a huge 300% increase in the number of players who started using reality checks, a system which alerts players to how long they have been playing.
